While the thought of afternoon tea totally appeals to me (buns, scones, pastry… what’s not to like?) the fact that I absolutely detest tea tends to stand in my way. However, last week’s event at House of Zen in St Anne’s Square, Belfast, was the answer to all of my problems! Advertising a twist on the traditional afternoon tea, House of Zen offered a traditional Chinese teapot cocktail, complete with Chinese inspired pastries. It only took the promise of a teapot cocktail to lure me in, so I decided to see what they had in store on Saturday August 30. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. From the starter dish, which was a tasty and authentic Chinese duck salad, to the sweet platter which ranged from traditional afternoon tea pastries like raspberry tarts and lemon shortbread, to interesting and authentic Chinese desserts which put a unique twist on the afternoon tea theme, it was simply delicious. And that’s before we even begin to talk about the divine teapot cocktail!
But almost as important as the food itself was what I was going to wear. With it being so close to the end of summer, I decided that I would get my legs out in one of my favourite summery dresses. The dress itself was from Liberty Blue and I chose to pair it with my trusty Carvela wedges, which are the heart of comfort and stylish too. But possibly my most prized possession of the entire outfit was my Michael Kors clutch. After purchasing my Jet Set tote bag at the start of the summer, I became a little obsessed with the brand, so you can imagine my delight when I came across this gorgeous clutch in Covent Garden’s Michael Kors store for just £45! It was an absolute steal and has been my go-to clutch bag for almost any occasion.
Between dressing up for the occasion and enjoying delicious cocktails and treats, I had a fantastic day at House of Zen – it was the perfect solution to my hatred of all things tea related!
